🌱 Garden ME Open the free app

Privacy

Garden ME is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no ads and no tracking cookies, nothing is sold or shared for marketing, and visits are only counted anonymously (see “Visit counts”).

Without an account (the default)

Your gardens, settings and photos you trace over are stored only in your browser on this device (IndexedDB and local storage). They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes them; use Export to keep a copy. Local storage also remembers small things such as whether you have seen the welcome screen and the guide.

With an optional account

If you create an account, we store your email address, the name you choose, your password as a salted scrypt hash (never the password itself), a sign-in cookie, and the gardens and short garden cards you choose to keep in it. They are stored on Garden ME’s own server and used only to run your account. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from the account window; it is deleted immediately.

Live sessions and chat

While a live co-design session is open, the garden and the chat messages pass through Garden ME’s server to the people with the link. They are kept in memory only, never written to disk, and deleted when the session ends. Anyone with the link can see and change the garden.

Feedback

If you send feedback from the app, we keep what you write, the kind and rating you pick, and the email address if you give one (only to reply), with the app version, 2D or 3D, your device type and a rounded screen size, so problems can be reproduced. Your IP address is not stored with it. Feedback is kept until it has been dealt with; ask in a new message if you want yours deleted.

Online services, only when you use them

Some features fetch data from other services. Like any website, they see your IP address and the request; they are only called when you use the feature, and Garden ME sends them nothing else:

FeatureServiceWhat is sent
Address searchOpenStreetMap Nominatimthe address or place you type
Map and satellite layersOpenStreetMap tiles, Esri World Imagerywhich map tiles to show (the area you look at)
Your local climateOpen-Meteo (ERA5 climate record)your garden’s position, rounded
Neighbouring buildings and treesOpenStreetMap Overpassyour garden’s position and a radius
Plant photos and “add any plant”Wikimedia Commons, iNaturalistwhich photo or plant name to look up

The camera for “See it in your yard” (AR) and photos you load for “Garden from a photo” are processed on your device and never uploaded.

Sharing on social media

Share makes a picture of your garden on your device. The Instagram button copies your caption and hands the picture to Instagram through your phone’s share menu (on a computer it downloads the picture). Each other platform button (Facebook, X, WhatsApp, LINE, Telegram, Pinterest, Reddit, LinkedIn, email) only opens that site’s own share page in a new tab with the text and link filled in; Garden ME sends nothing to it, and nothing is posted until you post it there. The link opens your garden as a card for anyone who has it; signed in, a short link is kept with your account until you delete it.

Visit counts

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: how many people visit, which pages they read, which sites they came from, their rough country, browser and device type, and how fast pages load. It uses no cookies or local storage and builds no profile of you; we only see totals. Visitors from the EU are not counted. The app itself sends no analytics of its own.

Hosting

The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes requests (including IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. Server logs are used only to keep the service running.
